Several Christmas markets and millions of visitors make Düsseldorf a Christmas city in the period until New Year's Eve. The theme markets make the Düsseldorf Christmas market an attraction for young and old and have been inviting visitors to stroll for years. The individual theme markets are only a mulled wine away from each other and exude a Christmas feeling. The Christmas world is rounded off by various attractions, such as the Ferris wheel and the large ice rink.

The concept
The Düsseldorf Christmas market is more than just "a" Christmas market. Various themed markets, which are lined up next to each other, transform Düsseldorf's city center into a Christmas City. The visitors can expect originally designed huts and a wide range of goods. Thanks to its central location in Düsseldorf's city center, nowhere else can window shopping be combined with Christmas market strolling as well as in Düsseldorf.
The christmas city
Hundreds of Christmas trees and thousands of lights can be found in Düsseldorf's city center every year. For seven weeks, multifaceted theme markets invite visitors to stroll around. As a tourist driver of the state capital, the theme markets attract an international audience of millions every year. The various markets, all within walking distance of each other, transform Düsseldorf into a Christmas city that graces the Düsseldorf city center until New Year's Eve.
Ferris Wheel and Ice Skating Rink
Over 50 meters high and a perfect view guaranteed: The Ferris wheel at the Düsseldorf Christmas Market is one of the highlights in the Christmas city. The large ice skating rink on the Düsseldorf Christmas Market is also always popular. Here, you can also go ice stock curling.

Traffic measures and bike path detour
Together with the Office for Traffic Management, D.LIVE has planned a number of traffic measures and cycle path detour for this year's Christmas market, which will be implemented for the first time in 2023. These measures will take effect from November 10, 2023.
Traffic Measures Schadowstraße
This year we came up with a new solution on Schadowstraße that will significantly enhance the market experience. By setting up a detour, the Christmas huts can be rotated by 180 degrees and thus open up on both sides towards the middle of the street, which is normally used for bicycle traffic. The temporary cycle path detour works as follows:
- In the daytime, entrance gates at Jacobistraße/Schadowstraße and Kö-Bogen-Tunnel/Schadowstraße will prevent vehicles from entering the Christmas market area. These will be closed daily from 11 am. During the morning rush hour, Schadowstraße can still be used by cyclists.
- The Christmas market closes daily at 10 pm. On December 24, the Christmas market closes at 3 pm and on December 26 at 9 pm. The entrance gates for cycle traffic will be reopened after the market closes each day.
- Additional bicycle parking facilities will be set up near Karstadt on Schadowstraße for those arriving by bike.
The detour starts at the Am Wehrhahn/Jacobistraße junction. Cycle traffic will be diverted north into Jacobistraße. A cycle lane will be set up for this purpose, which will be separated from the motor vehicle lane by beacons and signage. The cycle lane will be set up on the existing parking spaces on Jacobistraße between the streets Am Wehrhahn and Jägerhofstraße. The approx. 20 paid parking spaces that will be eliminated as a result can be compensated for by the parking garages (Schadowstraße multi-storey parking lot, Liesegangstraße multi-storey parking lot, Q-Park Stadtmitte, Q-Park Kaufhof Wehrhahn etc.). At the level of Malkastenstraße, the detour is routed via the existing protective lane into the side area, where cyclists can use the traffic lights in the direction of Hofgarten. The detour will then be routed via Jägerhofallee in Hofgarten towards Kö-Bogen II.
The detour starts at Kö-Bogen II in the northbound direction. Cycle traffic will then be diverted towards Jacobistraße via Jägerhofallee in Hofgarten. At the Jägerhofstraße/Jacobistraße junction, cycle traffic will be routed via the existing ramp onto the road heading south. The right-hand lane on the road will then be converted into a cycle lane by beacons and signage up to the Goltsteinstraße junction.
