The Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW

Since 2002, the metropolis of Düsseldorf has been transformed once a year into a grand backdrop for Japanese culture and lifestyle. More than 600,000 people visit the big Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW every year to celebrate the German-Japanese friendship with stage shows and hands-on activities. In 2023, the festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Once again, hundreds of thousands of people are expected on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf. The Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW will take place on May 13, 2023.

Fireworks

A fireworks display of superlatives. The Japanese high-altitude fireworks display marks the end of Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW and is at the same time the largest Japanese high-altitude fireworks display in the world outside Japan. The special feature of these fireworks is the central theme, which always runs through the fireworks program. Instead of rockets, ball bombs are fired into the sky. The fireworks annually attract hundreds of thousands of people as well as dozens of ships to the Rhine and is also broadcast live by WDR - a fireworks display that must be experienced.

Japanese culture in Düsseldorf

With around 7,000 Japanese citizens, Düsseldorf has the third largest Japanese community in Europe after London and Paris. At the Japan Day Düsseldorf/NRW, hundreds of participants present Japanese culture in all its facets on various stages. A wide variety of information and demonstration booths will immerse visitors in the Japanese world - martial arts, manga drawing, kimono try-ons and traditional Japanese cuisine.
