The 2023 INVICTUS GAMES have been unveiled. On 6 September 2022, Patron Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex came to Düsseldorf to unveil the motto of the Games – A Home for Respect. After London, Orlando, Toronto, Sydney and The Hague, the INVICTUS GAMES will be held in Germany for the first time in 2023. The sports city of Düsseldorf is the ideal venue for this international sports festival, which will be jointly staged for the first time by the Bundeswehr as a military organisation and the city of a German state. The project team composed of members from the Bundeswehr and D.LIVE / D.SPORTS will provide all participants and guests with unforgettable moments in Düsseldorf.
Under the motto “A HOME FOR RESPECT”, the INVICTUS GAMES will be held in Düsseldorf from 9 to 16 September 2023. The venue for the games will be MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA with the adjacent sports park and Rheinbad. The arena and the adjacent areas will be transformed into an Invictus Games Park, where, in addition to the competitions, cultural events and open sports activities will be offered to the public. The unique one-location concept offers space for an intensive sports experience as well as room for community and dialogue.
Some 500 wounded, injured and sick soldiers from 20 nations will come together in Düsseldorf for this special sports event. They will compete in ten different sports in a friendly sports competition. They all share a similar fate: due to injuries during deployment and service or due to illnesses of body and soul, they have suffered permanent impairments and are fighting their way back to life.
The INVICTUS GAMES were initiated by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex in 2014. One of the main goals of this international sporting competition is to offer soldiers who are wounded, injured or ill, both mentally and physically, greater visibility and recognition in society and to support their rehabilitation.
